As Seen in Kiplinger

Somewhere out on the open road, a retired couple in their 80s are enjoying their dream of touring the country in a motorhome. But their voyage almost took a detour before they even began.

“A fear of running out of retirement money made the wife hesitant to buy a motorhome. The husband, on the other hand, couldn’t wait to get a vehicle and hit the road. As Certified Financial Planners™ professionals, getting couples on the same page financially is one of the most important tasks we take on,” explains Joseph F. Bert, CFP®, AIF®.

Like many couples, money really wasn’t their true issue. They had been disciplined savers and investors. They simply had different ideas about what retirement meant. “They met with us and spoke frankly about their individual goals,” says Bert. “They were able to resolve their differences and start their retirement journey. They’re now on their second motorhome.”

Bert is one of twelve CFP®s at Certified Financial Group*. Beginning in 1976, Bert began recruiting other CFP®s who share his commitment to providing investors with unbiased, customized planning for a fee.

Now CFG is one of the oldest and largest independent financial planning firms in Central Florida. Bert believes it now has more CFP®s under one roof than any other such firm in the state. The growing client base includes many investors from throughout the U.S. who were referred to CFG, some of whom they have never met face-to-face. Local and remote clients alike benefit from the company’s investment in state-of-the-art communication technology.

With more than 300 years of combined experience, the CFG team guided clients through a challenging economic environment that included the dotcom crash, the “tech wreck,” the 2008 financial crisis, the Great Recession and the prolonged sluggish recovery. “There’s not much we haven’t dealt with before,” says Bert, who has hosted the weekly “On the Money” radio show for 30 years where he earned the nickname “The Oracle of Orlando.” It’s heard on News 96.5 FM WDBO every Saturday.

It Starts with You
CFG’s clients enjoy the benefit of working with CFP®s specifically trained and experienced in aligning all aspects of a family’s life – the tangible and intangible. Each member of the team is trained in financial planning, including investment planning, Social Security planning, retirement planning, estate planning, and 401(k) services.

An independent advisory firm that holds to the fiduciary standard, CFG starts with a blank piece of paper when helping clients develop their own customized financial plan. “We don’t start with any assumptions. We have no biases. We aren’t limited in what we can offer. We sit on the same side of the table as our clients,” explains Bert, a former adjunct faculty member for the College for Financial Planning, the nation’s leading provider of financial education.

CFG’s sister organization, Certified Advisory Corp. (CAC), a Registered Investment Advisor with more than $125 billion in assets under management, develops an investment plan and a portfolio that reflects the investor’s goals. The selection of assets is based solely on the best interest of the client. They are designed to work in all market and economic conditions. Fully transparent in its fee structure, CAC does not rely on commissions or incentive-based products because advisory clients pay fees based on assets they have under management.

“Whether your riches are counted in millions or with fewer zeroes, our advisors are available throughout all the stages of life to help you stay on the path to financial security for a lifetime. We want to be there every step of the way for our clients,” Bert concludes, “as we Plan Tomorrow…Today”
