Whenever me and my friends go out to eat, we always pay for our own food and drinks, no one else's, we all pay on the same bill with no problem, never had a problem with it.
Whenever on a date, I always assume I pay for my own food and drinks unless I've asked them out, then I assume I cover the bill, that way I'm always assuming what I'll pay or more than what I'll pay.
